Earlier this year, the Secretary General of PYU paid a courtesy call on the Director for Gender, Women and Youth of the African Union Commission Ngwenya Maprude (Ms. Ngwenya Prudence) at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa.
He took the opportunity to formally congratulate her on her appointment as substantive Director of the Department for Gender, Women and Youth.
They both had an open, candid, and constructive discussion on the AUC-PYU relationship and the possible steps to revitalize our engagement.
The SG was pleased about the warm and positive reception from the Director, the meeting gives hope and renewed impetus to the processes that will lead to a restored working relationship between the AUC and PYU.
He thanked the Director for an open and frank conversation on the issues that affect youth engagement and the role our relationship can play to scale up youth engagement and participation in continental processes.
Concessions and diplomatic overtures are key to building confidence and restoring trust moving forward.
