Pan-African Youth Union (PYU) and African Union Commission (AUC) sign an MoU to Enhance Youth Development and Continental Integration

Today, 6 October, 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the Pan-African Youth Union (PYU) and the African Union Commission (AUC) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in advancing Africa’s youth development agenda and continental integration.

The signing ceremony took place at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, where H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, received the Executive Leaders of the Pan-African Youth Union, President, Mr. Moumouni Dialla, Secretary-General, Mr. Wiisichong Bening Ahmed and Executive Director, Ms. Imane Ibn El Melih Taya. The ceremony was witnessed by the Chairperson of the AU Specialized Technical Committee (STC) on Youth, Culture and Sports.

Nearly decades of the African Union’s endorsement of the PYU as its continental youth body, this MoU represents a historic milestone in reaffirming the AU’s commitment to youth empowerment, participation and leadership across the continent. The agreement reinforces the shared vision to revitalize and strengthen the PYU as the coordinating body of National Youth Councils and as the united voice of Africa’s young people in driving the continent’s transformation agenda.

Founded in 1962, the Pan-African Youth Union has been at the forefront of Africa’s liberation, unity and development movements. With over six decades of mobilizing young people for social justice, peace and transformation, the PYU continues to serve as a reliable platform uniting youth and amplifying voices of Africa’s young people on crucial issues of continental inclusion and meaningful systematic participation within the broader continental frameworks as per mandate.

The Pan-African Youth Union headquarters is currently hosted by the government of the Kingdom of Morocco in Rabat.

Through this partnership, the Pan-African Youth Union and African Union Commission will work jointly to promote policies and programmes that foster unity, peace, democracy, good governance and sustainable development, while deepening African integration in line with the Africa’s broader development aspiration as articulated in Agenda 2063, an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the global arena: The Africa We Want.
